AFIRD is an indigenous NGO that was founded by a group of professionals in 1997 and registered as an NGO by the Ugandan government in 1998. AFIRD is a community-based organization with sufficient capacity in terms of structures and policies to implement projects.

It started way back in 1992 as a conventional farm growing chillies, banana, vegetables and fruits for export. The course of this Centre kept transforming over time. n 1999 it was transformed into today’s organic and demonstration Centre, In 2001 the centre was certified by African Organics, in the same year the demonstration farm was eventually transformed into a rural training and demonstration centre for integrated sustainable organic agriculture.
